What mental health needs is more exposure and more unashamed conversation.

Our Mission

View in Tamil

Thadam was formed by like-minded Sri Lankan Tamil community members of different generations and diverse occupations to help our community by:

  • Breaking down historical stigma in the Tamil community concerning mental health

  • Focus on raising awareness by providing education on maintaining mental wellbeing

  • Engage and empower our Tamil community (no matter their age, social status, belief systems or current perceptions) about mental health and wellbeing.

About Us

Thadam is a non-government organisation (NGO) based in Sydney, Australia. Our focus is on mental health in the Tamil community.

Thadam is the word for “journey” in Tamil. We all have a different Thadam. We either walk it alone, or we can walk it with family and friends. Whatever you choose, our Thadam may be long, or it may be filled with twists and turns. It may be more challenging than others and sometimes, it can seem too hard to bear.

It can be during these times our mental well-being may not be at it’s best. Everyday tasks can become harder to complete and we may feel a strain on our relationships with others. Overall, it can affect how we think, feel and act and can also translate into poor physical health.

Thadam aims to make a positive difference in our society by normalising discussions about mental health and equipping us with the tools required to seek help and support others when needed.

Welcome to Thadam - Your Journey, My Journey, Our Journey!

We love to work with other like minded groups to help our community!
